Origin and History of Shiatsu

Shiatsu is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, which is, as we all know, millennia old. In 1919, Mr. Tamai Tampaku merged the skills of the ancient Chinese, in terms of working on the meridians and energy work with Western anatomy and physiology. He chose what he considered the best of two and created a new system which he called Shiatsu.

The expansion of shiatsu is mainly contributed by Mr. Namikoshi, student Tamai Tampaku, who treated Marilyn Monroe. Who has not only healed from serious disease, but also Shiatsu received great attention.

How can Shiatsu Help

Shiatsu sets in motion energy in the acupuncture pathways by stretching, pressure or touch, thus restoring the energy balance of the body. Shiatsu uses a wide variety of techniques - dynamic release of tense body parts, stretching, swinging, and the peaceful pressure to tune the body. Shiatsu therapist uses fingers, palms, elbows, knees or feet. The effects of shiatsu are also deeply relaxing and invigorating.

The basic principle of shiatsu is simple - shiatsu therapist only helps treated to connect with the body's own healing abilities, and to restore his health. This work affects not only physical but also emotional and mental aspects of treated.

Shiatsu as a precaution
Like most Eastern healing methods shiatsu lays emphasis on prevention. After all, in China doctors get paid only when their patients were healthy, if they patients were sick, it meant that the doctor was not doing his job. Any disease, before the physical manifestation is written in our energy channels and lasts up to 9 months before it manifest in the physical body (e.g.: it is not true the night that the stress grows into a stomach ulcer). When energy flows in the body harmoniously - it cannot be ill.

Chronic problems
These are chronic fatigue, migraines, insomnia, menstrual pain, indigestion, problems with blood pressure, joint pain and other chronic problems that seem to have no cause, or Western medicine did not diagnose any specific disease.

Physical injuries
Shiatsu is as complementary treatment suitable for rehabilitation after injuries or vascular incidents.

Acute conditions
Shiatsu is not a technique for the treatment of acute conditions, but it can help clients better manage the effects of treatment (chemotherapy, radiation therapy, postoperative states).

Psychological problems and personality development
Eastern medicine teaches that the body, mind and spirit are one. Balance and tune the energy flows in the body helps with mental problems and develops us. This increases the quality of energy and level of harmony in our body and mind.

Pregnancy
Shiatsu is also suitable for pregnant women, there are some points and positions that are contraindicated, but this does not prevent to enjoy pleasant relaxation of muscles and tendons and allow the body to relax and harmonize :-)

How is Shiatsu performed

Shiatsu is performed on a futon (Japanese cotton mattress) on the ground, through loose clothing. Shiatsu in any case does not hurt; it is a deeply relaxing experience. Shiatsu takes with entering discussion and final resting 70 minutes.

What you need to Shiatsu

Bring with you loose and comfortable clothing and sox. The best are cotton sweatpants and a t-shirt. It is important that you are not right after eating or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
